Ancient Ruins Walkthrough — Code 882 & Shard of the Fallen Sun

Full Ancient Ruins guide for Bring Back The Sun. Door code 882, water bucket puzzle, golden wheat harvest, statue restoration, and the Shard of the Fallen Sun.

Overview

Ancient Ruins is the third major map in Bring Back The Sun, transporting you to a crumbling desert temple surrounded by sand and overgrown columns. This area focuses on water management, agricultural mechanics, and statue restoration — a thematic shift from the forest's platforming emphasis. Your reward for completing every puzzle is the Shard of the Fallen Sun, the second legendary relic.

The ruins are laid out in a circular pattern with four quadrants: the entry plaza, the irrigation courtyard, the wheat field, and the inner sanctum where the statue stands broken. Progress flows clockwise, though skilled players can solve the irrigation and wheat puzzles in parallel to save time.

Plan for thirty to fifty minutes on your first visit. The water bucket mechanic has a learning curve, and the statue restoration puzzle requires gathering three separate pieces from different corners of the map.

Entry Door — Code 882

The temple entrance is sealed by a stone door with three digit slots. Clues appear in the form of hieroglyphics on the outer walls. Each glyph depicts a container being filled — the first shows eight units poured, the second shows eight more, and the third shows two. Reading left to right across the entrance arch gives you the code: 882.

Some players confuse the glyphs with the wheat count or water level markers inside the courtyard. Those clues serve different puzzles. For the entry door specifically, trust the pouring sequence on the outer wall: eight, eight, two.

Enter 882 on the stone keypad and the door recedes into the floor, revealing the irrigation courtyard. If the code panel does not appear, approach the door from the front — the trigger zone is narrower than it looks.

Water Bucket Puzzle

The irrigation courtyard contains a dry channel system connecting a well to three planter basins and a locked aqueduct gate. You receive an empty bucket near the well. Fill it at the well, carry it to a basin, and pour. Each basin has a fill line marker — stop pouring when the water reaches the line.

The trick is that your bucket holds exactly four units, but the basins require different amounts. Basin one needs four (one full bucket), basin two needs eight (two trips), and basin three needs two (fill the bucket, pour half by interacting with the halfway marker on the wall). Once all three basins are correctly filled, the aqueduct gate opens and water flows into the wheat field.

Dropping the bucket resets its contents, so walk carefully and avoid jumping while carrying water. A spill means another trip to the well.

Golden Wheat Harvest

After the aqueduct activates, the wheat field floods with water and golden wheat stalks grow overnight (a brief time-skip animation plays). Only golden wheat counts — ignore the regular brown stalks scattered along the field edges.

Harvest exactly nine golden wheat stalks using the scythe technique you learned in the Wizard's House. Carry the wheat to the grinding stone in the courtyard corner and process it into golden flour. The flour is one of three components needed for statue restoration.

A sign near the field warns that over-harvesting resets the crop. Do not cut more than nine stalks. If you accidentally harvest too many, leave the map and re-enter to reset the field.

Statue Restoration and the Shard of the Fallen Sun

The inner sanctum houses a shattered sun-god statue missing its head, left arm, and crown. Find the head in the collapsed eastern wing (climb over rubble), the arm in a buried chest near the wheat field (use the crowbar), and the crown in the irrigation channel after the water puzzle (it floats to the surface once the gate opens).

Place all three pieces on the statue pedestal along with the golden flour. A cutscene plays showing the statue reassembling, and the Shard of the Fallen Sun materializes in the statue's outstretched hands. Grab the shard and place it on the exit altar to activate the portal to The Restaurant.

The restored statue also reveals a lore inscription about the sun's fall — worth reading if you follow the game's story closely.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Ancient Ruins door code?

The entry code is 882, derived from the pouring-sequence hieroglyphics on the outer temple walls.

How much water does each basin need?

Basin one needs 4 units (one bucket), basin two needs 8 units (two full buckets), and basin three needs 2 units (half a bucket).

How many golden wheat stalks should I harvest?

Harvest exactly nine golden stalks. Over-harvesting resets the entire field.

Where are the three statue pieces?

Head in the eastern collapsed wing, arm in a buried chest near the wheat field, crown floating in the irrigation channel after the water puzzle.

What relic do I get in Ancient Ruins?

The Shard of the Fallen Sun. It appears after you restore the statue with all three pieces and the golden flour.

Can I do the water and wheat puzzles in any order?

The water puzzle must be completed first because it irrigates the wheat field. Wheat harvesting comes after.
